The DDR5 kit is available in 8 GB per module and, in accordance with JEDEC standards, is expandable up to 128 GB to free up memory for seamless multitasking.
Critical factors for improved performance include increased skew and run lengths. DDR5 allows the creation of up to 32 banks (memory units that can be separately enabled/disabled) within 8 bank groups, doubling the access availability from the 16 banks available in DDR4 standards; the DDR5 series length (the amount of data that can be accessed with a single DRAM read/write command) is also double the DDR4 series length.
The standard operating voltage has been lowered from 1.2V in DDR4 modules to 1.1V, which reduces power consumption for each bandwidth to save power and reduce load. To minimise disruption, power management has been moved from the motherboard to the RAM and will be complemented by PMICs to effectively manage system load.
DDR5 memory modules support built-in ECC, a self-correcting function for DRAM cells, to ensure the stability of DRAM systems using DDR5 memory.
